Systems Designer at JustSystems Evans Research
JustSystems Evans Research (JSE) –
formerly, Clairvoyance Corporation – is seeking a full-time Systems Designer
with experience in software architecture design and development.
Description of Principal Duties: The employee will work as a Systems
Designer (programmer / software engineer) in support of the Principal
Systems Designer, the Research Team, and the Chief Scientist in the
development of new technologies, in the evaluation and extension of existing
technologies, in the creation of new intellectual property, and in the
building of prototypes. The job will require:
• Development of new and extension of older technology for text analysis
• Participation in design and code reviews
• Development and maintenance of unit and integration test suites
• Preparation of reports and presentations both for internal and external
purposes
• Performing other duties as assigned
Description of Qualifications:
Education and Focus: The employee must have a BS degree in an area
such as computer science, software engineering, computational linguistics,
artificial intelligence, machine learning, or information science.
Experience or familiarity with natural-language processing techniques is
highly desired.
Experience and Skills: Technical lead experience is preferred; a
minimum of 5 years of experience in software design and development is
required. In addition, the employee will demonstrate:
• Proficiency in Java and C++ as the principal development languages
• Good understanding of software engineering best practices (e.g., as
expressed through design patterns)
• Cross-platform development skills (principally on Linux and Windows)
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Ability to work in a team setting

Interested in research problems in areas
such as text classification, search, social network analysis, entity
recognition, affect and sentiment detection, and development and testing of
lexical resources?
JustSystems Evans Research is offering a number of research internship and
assistantship positions for the academic year 2007-08 for highly motivated
and qualified candidates. Our interdisciplinary work includes the following
areas: text data processing, information retrieval, information extraction,
natural language processing, ontology engineering, statistical modeling, and
machine learning.
SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Candidates for these positions should be energetic and focused and will be
expected to be pursuing or holding a Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree in an area
such as computer science, natural-language processing, computational
linguistics, information science, or a related field. Candidates should have
good computational skills (we currently use Java, Perl, C, and C++),
well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills, and must either have
understanding of and facility in text processing, or be willing to develop
such ability. Proficiency in English is required, and good communication
skills and teamwork are a must.
WHAT WE OFFER

opportunity to work in a leading international research group. Positions are
typically part-time for a 3 - 12 month period; under some circumstances,
positions may be full-time and longer term. Start and end dates are flexible
with regard to academic schedules. The successful candidate will work at
